Dr. Iheukwumere Ikechukwu Harmony

Dr. Iheukwumere Ikechukwu Harmony is the Head of the Department of Microbiology. A passionate scholar and accomplished microbiologist, he brings a wealth of experience in microbial research, diagnostics, and academic leadership.

His tenure as HOD emphasizes the pursuit of scientific excellence, applied microbiology, and the training of future microbiologists who will contribute meaningfully to public health, biotechnology, and environmental science.

Founded in 2000, the Department of Microbiology has consistently made significant strides in academics, research, and student development. The transition to COOU in 2014 marked a new phase of growth and visibility.

Key milestones include graduating numerous skilled professionals, producing top researchers, graduating the university’s overall best student, maintaining consistent accreditation since 2003, pioneering postgraduate programs, winning national quiz competitions, and continuous production of first-class graduates.

Admission Requirements - Clear Pathways

Undergraduate Admission
  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Pass in UME with faculty cut-off score.
  • Credit passes in five SSC subjects, including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
  • UTME conducted by JAMB.
  • Direct entry with A’ Level passes or ND/HND.
Postgraduate Admission
  • PGD: Third-class degree or good HND grade.
  • M.Sc.: Second-class lower division or PGD at credit level.
  • PhD: Master’s degree with CGPA of at least 3.50.
